These are supposed to be the best years of your life. You may have pictured slower days spent doing the things you enjoy such as traveling, volunteering, reading, or cooking delicious meals. Or perhaps you pictured training for a marathon, taking up a new hobby, or learning to play tennis? Either way, you never imagined you would be raising your grandchildren. You love them dearly and would never dream of sending them elsewhere. But, that doesn’t mean it isn’t extremely difficult to manage it all.
Perhaps you are losing the pleasure of being there for them in ways you really want to be…. to have weekend sleepovers, read them stories, bake cookies, and shower them with all the spoils that only grandparents can do. And, they in turn, may have lost out on some of this as well.
We are here to help you and your family find a balance between parenting and grandparenting. Times have changed since you raised your children. With years of experience working with families just like yours, we can help guide you through the challenges of raising children in a modern, 24/7 world.
- Set aside a small window of time each week to spend with your grandchildren doing things you enjoy.
- Learn as much as you can about social media, popular apps, and platforms that are risky.
- Volunteer and your grandchildren’s schools. Teachers, school counselors, and school staff are an invaluable resource for families.
- Be consistent with self-care. Allow yourself time to engage with friends, nurture hobbies, and take care of your health – mental, emotional, spiritual and physical.
